stroke July 25th

Back

On July 25th, I got to work and it was just another day. Felt fine and when I tried to get a tool that was under a car on my lift the lift moved when my foot slipped on some oil on the floor . The lift arm moved an I fell backwards hitting my head on a on a concrete wall. .I remember my head hurting really bad and then some people asking if I was alright. After that I remember riding in an ambulance with the siren going and people. asking me questions. Gretchen , a service writer rode with me to the hospital.  I really didn't know what happened at that point I thought it was just a head injury.

When I got to the hospital they were rolling me down a hallway and I remember saying "Where's the beer? and then someone said there was no beer here but he had bought a 12 pack the night before. S o I said "I guess we need to go to your house then." I thought at that time this can't be to bad because I haven't lost my humor.

The first time someone said what was wrong with me they said that I had left side neglect., but I didn't' know what that meant Later I was to figure out that I had a stroke from a clot  in the corroded artery. Later I was to find out that I couldn't feel my left cheek or left ear and I couldn't move my left arm or leg Then it came to me that only half my body was working. I had little to no feeling in my left leg or my left arm  Later I was to find that there were a lot of things affected from this stroke.

At the hospital they gave me what is called a TPA drip through IV and that was to break up the clot or blocked artery I went through two cat scans that night and the next morning. The doctor said that it looked like it was dissolving. Two more cat scans  later the doctor said that it had cleared. The doctor said there was still massive damage from the stroke. People said that I could not hold my head uo and that my eyes were rolled back in my head and that the only way I could see anything was to hold up something about 2 o'clock over my right eye, and that I really looked bad. Later after getting somewhat better some of the nurses said that they .didn't think I was going to get any better The doctor said that I was real lucky that I got to the hospital as fast as I did or I might not have been able to do anything again or possibly died.

I was in intensive care for a week at Gainesville Medical Center. I didn't remember much that whole week other than seeing the Doctor and getting cat scans. I remember some people visiting from work and some family coming to see me.

After a week I was moved to Glancy Medical Center which is mostly a rehab hospital. The nurses and staff here were absolutely great here and the dedication was unbelievable .   (more story to come later)
